The Provincial Nominee Program
Canadian provinces and territories (except Quebec and Nunavut) operate their own PNPs. Although unlike permanent residence, a provincial nomination can significantly increase your chances of permanent residence with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Canada has more than 80 PNP streams through which potential candidates can obtain permanent residency. This can be done by applying directly to the province or through the Express Entry profile.
Additionally, candidates with an Express Entry profile can receive a provincial nomination and add 600 points to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This virtually guarantees that the candidate will receive an invitation to apply to IRCC (ITA).
PEI PNP Express Entry Category
Candidates wishing to apply for a provincial nomination in the PEI Express Entry category must also be eligible under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) or Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Candidates with an Express Entry profile must create an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile using the PEI PNP. The EOI briefing informs the State that you would like to be considered for nomination. It also provides candidates with scores based on provincial scorecards. Candidates with the highest scores may receive an invitation to participate in a monthly draw.
Labour Impact Category
The Work Impact category will be nominated as a basic stream, independent of Express Entry. This category is divided into three streams. Regardless of which of these routes candidates apply for, they must have a valid job offer at PEI and be recognized by their employer.
1. Skilled Worker stream
Candidates in this category must currently work in PEI or have a job offer from a PEI employer. You will need experience in a skilled occupation in a National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill code 0, A or B, and a post-secondary degree or diploma.
2. Critical Worker stream
This category is for people whose work experience meets NOC Code C or D. Candidates must have at least two years of professional experience.
3. International Graduate stream
This course is for recent graduates of PEI accredited and accredited educational institutions such as universities and colleges. Suitable applicants work in a qualifying occupation in their field of study.
Business Impact Category
The business impact category is for qualified candidates who wish to incorporate, own and operate a business in PEI.
To be invited to the PEI Business Impact category, you must apply during the work permit process. For this pathway, candidates should start working in Canada and learn about the business through a work permit. Must be willing to live in PEI and actively manage the business. Entrepreneurs may be eligible for provincial nomination to support their application for permanent residence with IRCC if they meet the PEI criteria while holding a work permit.
